The current legislation around flexible working arrangements are not strong enough to support the employee.
Through experience I have encountered the current legislation at its worst resulting in my partner leaving her career and employment completely to be a mother, all because she requested a more flexible working arrangement which the employer would not agree too with the flimsiest of reasons. This was the employers right to refuse on ‚’business grounds‚’.
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that industry can continue to flourish whilst people are working remotely, working outside of the 9-5 routine and working on days outside of Mon-Fri.
I think this is the perfect opportunity to engrave into employment law a more flexible approach to working which favours both the employee and employer whilst allowing a work/life balance more akin to modern times.
