Focus on public health represents a unique opportunity to fight obesity

The pandemic has shifted all of the publics focus onto the health of the nations, and I believe we should capitalise on that to kickstart a health revolution and turn the tide against obesity. We’ve known since almost day one of this pandemic that pre-existing conditions was one of the best indicators as to whether someone would die or not if they caught COVID. Many of these pre-existing conditions can be linked to obesity. Heart disease and diabetes are represented highly in the statistics, with some 8,000 odd people dying of COVID while having one of those conditions.

The government must take this opportunity of the publics increased awareness of its own mortality, and use it to educate people in regards to living a more healthy an active lifestyle. This would reduce strain on the NHS, increase the happiness of the nation, and generally provide huge economic gains by having people healthier for longer.
