Pre-COVID, poor hand hygiene was a significant source of cross-infection between patients in a hospital environment. Especially when capacity was stretched, hand-hygiene was often the first area where corners were cut.
The COVID-19 epidemic raised awareness and reinforced the importance of this key, but too often neglected, aspect of patient care. This presents an important opportunity for us to invest in maintaining high standards.
