Making the NHS more resilient

When it became clear that PPE was in short supply and was difficult to import, many diverse bodies large and small quickly responded provide it. The same with other items such as ventilators. To stimulate new business foundation and innovation in the UK the Government could require the NHS to list all the components and consumables it uses (other than medicines) which can only be supplied by imports.

If it is clear to the public what is needed, and technical standards that the product must meet it would stimulate similar innovation in the knowledge that there will be significant regular demand and that helping to satisfy it will also make the health service more resilient with more self reliant supply chains. New business supplying such items will also provide employment.
