Normalisation of telemedicine provides an opportunity to relive the pressure on the NHS

Covid-19 has presented the opportunity to normalise telemedicine ‚’ the practice of receiving medical support via video and telephone. The necessary adoption of this behaviour presents a longer-term opportunity to reduce the pressures on the NHS by introducing routine telemedicine practices. All appointments ‚’ where possible ‚’ should be made virtually going forward.

This will help reduce the footfall at GPs and hospitals as well as enable more patients to be seen in a shorter amount of time. With the NHS struggling to tackle a growing backlog of care created from the pandemic this could be an ideal solution as it will free up Doctors to tend to patients that must be treated in person.
