Obesity as a risk factor for COVID-19

Obesity is a huge risk factor in COVID-19 and obese patients fare poorly if they contract the infection. The UK currently has the highest levels of obesity in Western Europe. Diet is far more important than exercise in the challenge of losing weight (80/20%) and yet this is rarely stressed in the press etc. Even when Boris Johnson contracted COVID, he seemed to highlight the importance of exercise over diet, with images of him on his bike and jogging. At no stage was mention of possible changes in his diet mentioned.

A larger emphasis needs to be made on diet and calorie intake if we wish to tackle the obesity issue in the UK. We need to make it easier for consumers to make healthy diet choices when shopping.
