Return to working from office for Civil Servants post lock down

The last year seen the majority of office-based civil servants working almost exclusively from home. Despite initial challenges with home working conditions and adapting to lack of face to face social interaction, the level of productivity didn’t drop and in many cases became higher, with thousands of civil servants having to deal with their day job and helping the fight against Covid-19 through management of major programmes and contracts.

Despite reservations many civil servants and their managers about home working at the beginning of the epidemic, it is clear that the majority of them wouldn’t want to go back to working full time from the office at the end of the lockdown.

This presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to rethink and optimise the use of government office space, so the time civil servants spent in office is utilised in the most effective way to take advantage of the face to face interactions, networking and collaboration.
