Throughout periods of lockdown we have all grown to value our outside environment whether that is in urban settings or in the countryside. Less traffic on our roads has improved our outside environment and there has been increased participation in walking, running and cycling.
The changes of behaviours caused by the pandemic have shown that there is potential to reach an improved world where the movement of people through the use of the private motorcar is managed and reduced.
Reduced use of the private motor car will make more space for walking, running and cycling, both in leisure and practical terms. This will lead to positive outcomes for health and wellbeing in the population as well as positive benefits for the environment and climate change.
