Young people being left behind

Through disrupted or reduced schooling or through less face to face contact in the workplace, many young people have missed out on development in the normal way. Young people learn and develop by hearing and seeing what more experienced people do and how they problem solve (or not as the case may be). They can then develop their own style as they get older.

School visits on career advice or work experience for example by adults has clearly reduced during COVID and this reduces the opportunity for teenagers to hear about peoples life experiences.

At work those with less experience learn from just being in same room / meetings as others. With remote working this key developmental area gets lost or significantly reduced.

A whole generation of younger people will miss out on this key developmental area thereby potentially affecting them for years ahead. Also in a post COVID / Brexit world the UK needs to be be more innovative about how it utilises its undoubted resources.
