As discussed above, as the risk of the pandemic is controlled, organisations will face a challenge: there will be a continued need to provide support around remote working; however, the provision of this support will become more challenging because teams and staff will use this new way of working differently. The solution to this problem already exists: change champions. Many organisations use change champions (often referred to as digital champions too) to reach out to staff and support them through changes. The challenge discussed above can also be solved through the use of change champions. These people will be able to act as links between the staff who need support and the staff who provide support. Therefore, the champions can raise the specific needs of their teams and organisations can respond accordingly. Moreover, the change champions needs to be empowered – they will receive general training from the organisation, but they need flexibility and autonomy; this will allow them to take the lessons they have learnt and adapt them for their teams.
