Many organisations including the US Department of Defence are turning to crowdsourcing to build their Cyber defence. Crowd sourced Cyber security is essentially rewarding any hacker that is able to identify weakness within your predefined scope, terms and conditions with a reward – The hacker would simply write a report to the platform allowing us to fix it and stop the vulnerability be exploited by an advisory, The best part is it doesn’t even have to monetary reward. Currently the US Department of Defence offers points system which encourages hackers to report vulnerabilities as a form of kudos and climb a leader board amongst other hackers /on a platform called “Hackerone”. I believe that putting together team to manage, triage and fix the identified threats will help make are systems one the most robust online. Obviously this will cost money but will mean that the cost will be kept in house and not contracted out and as the majority of the hacking will be crowd sourced it means you have thousands of eyes identify the issues in a controlled manor allowing us to concentrate on fixing them.
