There are illegal drug users in the UK and there always will be. There are illegal drug suppliers in the UK and always will be. I am sure lots of police time and lots of money is devoted to removing the drug supply and drug suppliers from the streets of the UK but as 1 supply chain is shut down another one opens. This is the system we have run for years in the UK and still we continue trying to prevent and we continue to fail, yet we continue doing the same thing. Isn’t this the definition of stupid – expecting a different outcome when you keep trying the same thing?
There is an increase in drug abuse and with it an increase in crime to supply the usage. The more usage the more mental health problems with increased to costs to deal with these.
Illegal drug usage
1. Crime – Victims, insurance costs
2. Police – time, cost to public, court time, prisons
3. Mental health issues – burden on system, cost to public
4. Users – reliant on benefits, charities
5. Cost – to the general public through tax
Legalise all drugs, tobacco and alcohol are legal. Have campaigns to encourage people not to start using drugs and prevent all the problems before they start.

1. State controlled – drugs not contaminated
2. Controlled use
3. Taxable
4. Reduced crime – less police time, court time and less victims and insurance claims, more space in prisons
5. Reduced costs to tax payer
6. No one benefitting from illegal drug trade
7. Less users because of campaigns like no smoking campaign
There is no reason why all illegal drugs shouldn’t be made legal. The present system doesn’t work so lets try a different way. What is there to loose by trying.
