Education and Rebuilding of Trust

I believe the UK public need to be educated on how the system works. They need to be able to understand the huge array of decisions our Prime Minister has to make and the fact that every decision has an impact on something else. For example, there is not an unlimited budget and so a constant drive for increased funding in one area will result in another area having funding withdrawn.

In order to do this I think there should be a ‘National Service’ type training that must be undertaken by everyone. For example, a weeks course, or a certain number of courses completed, that must be done by all at a certain age / period in their life or could be enforced before someone is able to buy or rent a property, get a job etc. I am not sure on when the best time is for this to be implemented but it must be made compulsory and there should be an incentive for the public to participate. It obviously needs to be free and it needs to be done in a way that everyone is able to attend. You could even pay people to do it but it must be mandatory for all.

This would have a huge impact in helping the public appreciate what politicians do, who makes decisions, why decisions are made and how that directly impacts on peoples’ lives. I have mentioned the example of understanding how taxes are spent above but it could also include basics on first aid, self-defence, education on living a healthier life, how to improve fitness, mental health discussions, as well as being an opportunity to meet new and different people who have different perspectives on life and come from different places.
