Online purchases have soared during the pandemic but it’s clear that online platforms enjoy significant advantages over high street retailers. One minor change that would ensure that the rules are the same for both would be to mandate that origin of manufacture is declared prominently on all products sold online. It is often not possible to find out where products are made. This simple change would enable consumers to make more informed decisions – whether that be to buy British to to reduce the environmental impact of their purchase by choosing a supplier closer to the UK.
