The massive deposits required and high monthly rents are inhibiting the mobility of the workforce.
This inhibits opportunities for the individual, and reduces the gross national product.
Within the major cities essential workers cannot find suitable accommodation and traveling costs/time causes a shortage of key personnel .
The solution is to give cities the power and budget to build subsidised housing to rent. Not huge tower blocks, but real family homes in which a community can be built.
The receipts from these rents should be ploughed back into the local community and not syphoned off to London.
