This is obviously not a new idea, but seems to simple. Reinstate a level of shorter, less expensive nursing training for a junior category of nurses, which does NOT require higher education qualifications, i.e. no university education. And restore the nursing training financial support to all trainee nurses.
Over the years we have come across a notable handful of people who have always wanted to nurse, would make good nurses, and would welcome the opportunity to care for sick people, but who could not for whatever reason reach degree level. So much willing manpower gone to waste.
Please introduce policies which would enable the release of their undoubted talent into our NHS. And possibly consider building in a clear plan for an upward career path through the profession.
