Life shouldn’t be easy, it should be rewarding…
Most of us try and take out more that we put in, regardless of if we are high earners and making ends meet.
The problem is we don’t appreciate what we will need from others later life until we get there. We avoid facing the inevitable deterioration of our capabilities.
Many of us will require the assistance and care from people who we have never met, and we will rely on their compassion, discretion and professionalism when our abilities and mental capacity may not allow us to complete the simplest and most personal of tasks ourselves.
It is only at this point we can truley appreciate the value of these people, our carers.
I would like individuals to be enlightened early in their lifetimes to this fact so that they can learn a key value and apply throughout their own life.
Similar to how Scrooge was shown the errors of his ways by three ghosts (before it was too late)…
My idea is a programme of young people’s education and ‘national service’ focussed on health or care awareness, in two parts
1. Care service award for young people (GCSE and A level national curriculum) similar to how Religious studies has become part of the curriculum
2. Civil duty award for health sevice. Either a mandatory hands on experience of Care where young people automatically have to commit a number of hours, or voluntary programme similar to the profile of the Duke of Edinburgh.
All leading to career and employment opportunities.
I think we need a Health / Care tollerant society moving forward and to build an aspiration amongst the next generations.
Once this value is instilled in young minds attitudes behaviour and decisions may change quickly.
Thanks
