Widespread deprivation and poverty highlighted by Covid should not be supported by the State

Distribution of prize money from the National Lottery and Premium Bonds should be overhauled so that a much bigger number of people benefit by reducing costs and the unnecessarily high level of prizes. For example each month nearly 3 million people receive a paltry prize of £25 and a further 1 million receive £50 or £100. Such sums are pretty meaningless even for the poorest people and the administrative costs must eat into the prize money out of all proportion to the benefits achieved. A substantial increase in the number of prizes of £1,000 would bring a significant degree of happiness to many individuals and families struggling to manage. Similarly the replacement of the two £1 million prizes by 20 additional prizes of £100,000 would still be a good headline attraction for would be participants and remove the unnecessary headaches etc usually experienced by the £1 million prizewinners as well as the inequality they create. The same principles apply even more so the National Lottery. Leveling up will never be achieved whilst these practices are perpetuated in front of the millions who watch on in despair at the injustice of it all.
