Towards international standardized norms of care homes facilities

To restore confidence in the care Home system and encourage potential new residents, we need to re-emphasize the idea of safety among care homes, and it’s very important after the failure which we have witnessed during the pandemic in care homes, the failure is an indicator of bad policies which do not fit with the new challenges and needs. However, there is still an opportunity to reform what happened and to strengthen the image of care homes among seniors and their families. I suggest that governments should announce ( The universal standards of long care homes) those standards could be national only and require new permits for care homes that meet those standards. The role of government should be very clear and visible in monitoring, evaluation, and implementation. The universal standards should include;

• Budget plan support from the government

• Strength of the infrastructure of care homes

• partial financial aid to care home workers from the government.

• To set mental health support for care home workers and seniors

• To set a surveillance camera in care home facilities to monitor the situation in every single one.

• To set up an early warning indicator system based on points and direct communication between residents, caregivers, management, and the government.

• To set up standards of Care homes employment for caregivers with skills of risk and disaster management, and disease control.

• To adopt a non-discrimination and ethics treatment.

• To offer compensation for those families who lost their loved ones during the pandemic

• To open a national investigation about the responsibility of Death cases due to negligence of the management of care homes

• Providing one-time grants to care homes small business.

• To set up a syndicate or union for care homes and their workers.

• To set up a national Hot-line for care homes for any urgent violence report

• To collect data in respect to gender and racial diversity by disaggregated data collection and data analysis

• Complementary pathway to Immigration of skilled-worker to care home facilities.

• To require a social service monthly volunteering system for youth and students for Care home facilities. Those are a brief of ideas to adopt ( The universal standards of long care homes) to standardize criteria and norms among care homes nationally and internationally.
