Covid has severely damaged the ability of an already stretched NHS to deal with its normal work. At the same time physical inactivity is causing serious health issues which are expensive and time consuming to treat and which will continue to add to the challenges faced by the NHS. According to Public Heath England physical inactivity is responsible for one in six deaths and is estimated to cost the UK £7.4 billion annually. (Guidance Physical Activity: applying to All Our Health).
Covid and the control measures introduced in response has increased feelings of loneliness and isolation and damaged mental health.
We need to encourage greater physical activity and provide an opportunity for people to come together as a community to improve physical and mental health and to reduce the burden on the NHS
