The Anxiety of giving

Covid 19 has and will continue to hit the poorest, hardest. The economic ramifications will heap more misery on those already at the brink. Those outside the system have no access to help with a total reliance on charity or crime to survive. Covid has moved us closer to a cashless society and hit those who must beg for coins, extremely hard indeed.

Social networks are providing many benefits to those with access. The ability to be charitable is at our fingertips. Be it cash or otherwise giving to the apparently homeless is the cause of great anxiety in my experience:

‚- Are they truly homeless or a professional beggar?

‚- If I give to them will they spend it on their own drug or drink fuelled destruction?

‚- I don‚’t know them; I can‚’t help everybody.
