The blight of takeaway food litter in the countryside

As the lockdown eased in early summer, many of us got outside and took advantage of the good weather and thousands of miles of well-maintained footpaths the UK is blessed with. Shockingly apparent was the moment takeaway food outlets reopened – ditches, footpaths, lay-bys and roadsides quickly became littered with packaging, much of it bearing one of a few distinctive logos. Whilst much of the packaging is now recyclable and there are ample opportunities for us to dispose responsibly of litter, it is not always happening. It takes many years for such litter to fully decompose. It‚’s a blight on the beauty of our natural environment.
